A main opposition Party lawmaker submitted Thursday a revised bill to the parliamentary secretariat aimed at removing resident registration number (RRN) from passport.
The revision bill of the current Passport Act proposed by lawmaker Oh Je-se of the New Politics Alliance for Democracy (NPAD) states that the government must delete South Korean personal information such as a RRN from passport.
“It has been argued that the current passport content of the 13-digit resident registration number pose a serious risk to personal privacy and security,” Rep. Oh said in a press release.
“When travel abroad, what we need to take is not an ID number but a valid passport. The clause that requires a RRN should be scrapped or revised,” he added.
