Art Exhibition of Canada and Korea

Korean Heritage Day Festival
(Organized by the Hanin Heritage Society)

Date:        Saturday, May 31st, 2003 (11:00PM – 10:00PM)

Background:  Hanin Heritage Society  (President: dae-woon Park)

The Hanin Heritage Society was formed this year by leaders of Korean cultural and artistic groups/organizations who have been involved in cross-cultural relationships between Korea and Canada  and promoting Korean dance, music, martial arts, and fine arts.  The primary objective of the Society is to carry on Korean cultural and heritage events in British Columbia in a coordinated fashion.  Among the objectives was to build upon the inaugural Korean Heritage Day Festival held on May 17, 2002 at Swangard Stadium.  The Festival will be hosted by Mi-Jung Lee (BC CTV emcee) and expect more than 6,000 visitors this year




Korean Cultural Properties Exhibition 2003

Highlights:
Ÿ        Opening Ceremony on Friday, June 20th at 6:00PM
Ÿ        Bongsan mask dance performance, Korean food (Presented by FPCP)
Ÿ        121 artifacts(made by craft artists, designated as a Korean Human treasure by
Korea goverment), and 20 photo panels will be displayed in the Pendulum gallery

Admission:  Free admission to the general public

Background: Korean Foundation for Preservation of Cultural Properties(FPCP) , in collaboration with The Canadian Society for Asian Arts(CSAA), and coordinated by dae-woon Park(President of Hanin Heritage Society), has developed the exhibition for presentation in Vancouver.  The exhibition celebrates the 40 years of diplomatic relations between Korea and Canada that started in January of 1963.  The exhibition’s objective is to communicate the beauty and excellence of traditional Korean craft to the Canadian public, as well as to impart pride to Korean Canadians by instilling a greater understanding of their cultural heritage.

Exhibition Concept:
The exhibition presents Korean Traditional Natural dying 100 artifacts created by Gye-Nam Shin, Korean traditional natural dying artist)

Background:
This exhibition celebrates the 40 years of diplomatic relations between Korea and Canada.  The exhibition’s objective is to communicate the beauty and excellence of traditional Korean customs and natural dying artifacts to the Canadian public, as well as to impart pride to Korean Canadians by instilling a greater understanding of their cultural heritage.
