연아 마틴(한국명 김연아ㆍ49) 캐나다 연방 상원의원이 연말연시를 맞아 한인사회에 감사 인사를 전했다. 마틴 의원은 캐나다 유일의 한국계 연방 상원의원으로, 한-캐나다 간 우호 증진과 FTA 체결을 위해 앞장서왔다.
마틴 의원은 “모든 한인 사회 단체장들과 대표분들 및 봉사자 여러분에게 감사의 마음을 전한다”며 “한인 사회의 튼튼한 토대가 만들어졌다”고 격려했다.
또한, “모든 커뮤니티와 가정을 위해 균형 잡힌 예산을 가져오길 약속”하며 “새로운 비전과 투지와 함께 2015년을 위해 일해 나가겠다”고 다짐했다.

캐나다 상원을 대표해 연말 인사를 드리며 평화와 희망, 즐거움과 사랑이 깃드는 크리스마스와 새해를 맞이하시길 기원합니다.
2014년은 캐나다와 한국에 진정으로 역사적인 한 해였습니다. 2014년 3월 10일 한국에서 캐나다-한국 자유무역협정을 공식 서명했으며 올해 처음으로 두 나라의 수장이 각국의 나라를 방문하셨습니다. 그리고 이번 가을 역사적인 FTA가 캐나다와 한국에서 비준되었습니다.
1월 1일부터 시작되는 C-K FTA 발효와 함께 양국 관계에 새로운 시대와 전례 없는 무역과 기회들이 많아질 것이며 밝은 2015년이 우리를 기다리고 있습니다.
을미년 양띠의 해인 2015년 모든 커뮤니티와 가정들을 위해 균형 잡힌 예산을 가져오길 약속드립니다.
한인 사회와 캐나다 사회에 이바지하시는 모든 한인 사회 단체장님들과 대표분들 및 봉사자 여러분들에게 감사의 마음을 전합니다. 여러분 덕분에 2014년이 성공적으로 끝났고 이민 역사 동안 한인 사회의 튼튼한 토대가 만들어졌습니다.
캐나다와 한국의 우정과 깊은 유대를 위해 다음 50년을 바라보는 새로운 비전과 투지와 함께 2015년을 위해 다 같이 일해 나가겠습니다. 항상 건강 유의하시고 가정에 행복 가득하시길 바랍니다.

Season's Greetings from The Honourable Yonah Martin
On behalf of the Senate of Canada, please accept our best wishes for a Christmas season filled with peace, hope, joy and love.
2014 has been a truly historic year for Canada and Korea with the official signing of the Canada Korea Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA) on March 10, 2014 in Seoul. This year also marked the first time both Heads of State made official visits to one another's country within the same year. The historic agreement was then ratified in both countries.
A bright 2015 awaits all of us with the implementation of the CKFTA on January 1st, promising a new era of bilateral relations and an increase of unprecedented trade and opportunities. The Year of the Sheep also promises to bring with it a balanced budget, with support for allcommunities and families.
To the tireless community leaders and volunteers who contributed to the successes of this milestone year and in building a strong foundation over the decades of our immigrant history, thank you for your dedication to the national Korean community and to Canadian society.
Let us all look forward to 2015, with renewed vision and determination to focus on the next 50 years of diplomatic relations and to further strengthen the deep bond and friendship that exists between Canada and the Republic of Korea.
